Kenyatta’s Success Story

As a Healthcare Training Fund member and apprentice, Kenyatta McDowell knew she wanted to pursue additional training to become a Medical Assistant while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

With the support of her family and friends, Kenyatta McDowell earned her Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) qualification while studying and working:

“Going back to school after years away was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Life doesn’t pause just because you decide to chase your goal.”

Like many full-time working professionals considering going back to school, Kenyatta faced challenges including self-doubt and effectively dividing her time among all her responsibilities while maintaining her mental health:

“There were long nights, moments of frustration, and times I felt completely out of place doing my very best to balance everything. Work, family, and school often felt overwhelming. But little by little, I kept going. Not perfectly, not confidently, but consistently. And that made all the difference.”

Kenyatta’s perseverance and the support she found from her cohort classmates and mentors helped her keep moving forward on her path towards becoming a Certified Medical Assistant:

“The Healthcare Training Fund made it easier for me to grow professionally without taking on as much financial burden. Graduating [from this program] wasn’t just about earning my certificate. It was and is proof that growth doesn’t have an expiration date. It was a reminder that resilience matters more than speed, and that it’s never too late to invest in yourself.”
