Our Story

Our organization was founded on a simple but powerful idea: lasting workforce solutions happen when labor and management work together.

What began as a collaborative effort to support healthcare workers through labor/management partnership has evolved into a statewide workforce development organization focused on strengthening the entire healthcare ecosystem. Founded in 2008 by SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW and four hospitals, we are a non-profit, labor-management partnership (Taft-Hartley Trust) first established to provide robust education benefits to eligible members.

Our work continued to evolve as an organization based on community and workforce needs. The COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed programming efforts to help address systemic shortfalls in qualified staff. The Healthcare Training Fund saw first hand the need for increasing qualified workforce, removing barriers to training and delivering innovative, accessible pathways into healthcare careers. We are uniquely positioned to support collaboration, innovation and partnership based on our core values to impact the healthcare ecosystem.

That evolution expanded our work beyond traditional workforce programs and reinforced our commitment to serving the full healthcare community through partnership-driven solutions that center worker experience and support thriving labor-management relationships, improved patient care, and stronger communities.
